ABOUT
Maffra Dramatic Society Inc. are a volunteer-based amateur theatre company based in Maffra, Victoria.
Originating as the Maffra Amateur Dramatic Society, we have been entertaining the Gippsland district in some way, shape or form for well over a century. One of our first productions dates back over 140 years to May 1880, as advertised in the Gippsland Times (see right).
The society featured prominently in local theatres during World War I, performing plays such as She Stoops to Conquer, Mixed and The Private Secretary.
A resurgence in 1965 saw the aptly renamed Maffra Dramatic Society present a long string of musicals, producing at least one production per year from 1965 to 1992. After a brief hiatus, the company returned to stages in 2003 with Calamity Jane and haven't showed any signs of slowing since.
